We do not do this because the rhodium eventually wears away on raised areas, exposing the natural silver underneath, which then tarnishes and gives the ring a spotty appearance. And if the rhodium plating flakes off in places, it is almost impossible to remove for re-plating. To clean your Sterling silver Pirate Ring, it is important to use the following procedure: 1. Do not put the ring in an ultrasonic cleaner or dip it in a tarnish remover. This could remove the dark antique finish in the recessed areas. 2. Instead, put a small amount of paste-type silver polish on a small rag and gently rub the raised areas of your ring. Then rinse the under very warm water while rubbing gently with a clean cloth.
