Note:
White Gold has a very slight yellowish tint. This is the normal
color of white gold and is barely noticeable unless the piece
is placed next to one cast in Sterling silver. White gold is
sometimes plated with rhodium to give it a pure white appearance.
We do not do this, because the plating eventually begins to wear
off in raised areas, exposing the normal white-gold color beneath
and making the ring look uneven in color.
The
advantage of white gold over Sterling silver is that it is more
durable and does not tarnish -- and makes a heavier ring. Also,
the antique finish on the white gold Pirate Ring is a baked-on
epoxy which will not come off if the ring is cleaned in an ultrasonic
cleaner or dipped in a tarnish remover. The only disadvantage
of white gold over Sterling is that it is much more expensive.
