Atocha Coin Replica Jewelry



The originals of these chains, salvaged from the wreck of the Spanish galleon, Atocha, off the coast of Key West, often had links four times this size. The links of the chains were not soldered, and because of their high karat (22K to 24K gold), they could be twisted open and removed and actually used as money. Many years ago, one of the

owners of these chains (later sold at auction for $365,000.00) was gracious enough to let me borrow a couple of the links so that I could use them as as models. Thus, I had the rare privilege of having in my possession a portion of a true museum masterpiece to observe under magnification. In doing so, I was able to hand-carve my master links in exact replica.
